Geans Dental.

We take the right measures to make you and your mouth feel better.

If we could time travel and help people lead better lives, we would start with getting them to take better care of their oral health. Since that is not a possibility, we do our best to provide preventative care for those who visit us. It is not always possible that we can do that, though. We understand that many people already suffer from some form or other of oral complaint. In such cases, we do our best to alleviate their pain and provide deservedly personalised restorative care that will prevent further complaints in the future.

Crowns, bridges, root canal treatments, dentures or fillings– whatever your restorative care needs, our team provides you with a service that is high on quality, in an environment that is warm and reassuring.

The crown of your tooth – the area that is visible in your mouth – is made of two layers: a hard, white enamel layer and a thicker dentine layer. These hard layers protect the delicate pulp inside the tooth that carries the blood and nerve supply to the tooth. Sometimes, the pulp can be infected or inflamed due to deep decay or extensive fillings. This results in pain, discolouration of the tooth and even an abscess, leading to eventual tooth loss. A Root Canal treatment can fix this.

A Root Canal involves the removal of the infected pulp tissue from the tooth, and cleaning and shaping the residual space using tiny precision instruments. At our practice, we have the added benefit of an operating microscope that helps us work under high magnification to carry out this treatment. The roots are then sealed using a special thermoplastic material. A crown or onlay is often indicated to protect the root-filled tooth. A root canal-treated tooth can function normally and can be maintained with routine dental care and oral hygiene measures.

The procedures are generally comfortable, as the tooth is anaesthetised during the process.

Crowns

Crowns are replacement external surfaces for your teeth. They are used as protective covers for badly decayed or fractured teeth, as a permanent restoration for teeth with large fillings, or to improve the appearance of heavily filled teeth.

Crowns can be made from porcelain, ceramic or metal alloys.

It takes about two visits for the treatment to be complete, following a thorough clinical exam. Crowns can last for many years; however, the underlying tooth is still prone to decay and gum disease. So, regular check-ups and hygiene visits are recommended.

Bridges

If you have lost one or more teeth, a Bridge could be a smart investment to make. It is a way of replacing missing teeth by connecting to a tooth or teeth next to the space. This way, you don’t have to wear removable dentures. Made of porcelain thermally fused with a metal substance, Bridges look and feel like natural teeth, whilst giving a great appearance.

If you do opt for Bridges, be sure to clean them every day, to prevent problems such as bad breath and Gum Disease. Our team will show you how to use a bridge needle or special floss to clean under your false teeth every day, since normal toothbrushes cannot reach them.

Dentures

You probably recognise dentures as the detachable set of teeth, or ‘false teeth’, that older people usually wear. The truth is, dentures are removable false teeth that are used to replace missing teeth, regardless of age.

There are two kinds – partial dentures, used when some teeth are missing, or complete dentures, used when all natural teeth are missing. The duration of treatment depends on the complexity of your needs. Although new dentures may feel strange when first placed in the mouth, they can help fill gaps and help patients eat, whilst improving a person’s appearance.
