Because good oral hygiene
begins early.

It is important to pay attention to the oral health of children right from their first tooth, so you can lay the foundation for strong, healthy teeth and watch them grow into healthy, happy adults. With the right care, dietary habits and daily oral practices, children can enjoy a more wholesome life with healthier mouths for a lifetime.

When is the right time to
start bringing your child to
the dentist?

We recommend that children are seen by us as soon as the first tooth starts to appear, which is usually around six months old. Most of the front teeth would be present by the time children are a year old. During this period, our dentists can look into their mouth and check if all the teeth are developing normally. This preventative approach at Geans Dental is driven by the fun and positive experiences that give children the right care in an atmosphere that is friendly, warm and comforting.

According to Public Health England, 1 in 8 three year-old children have visible dental decay. That’s why, oral care must be sought as early as possible and must be paired with good hygiene practices and dental health coaching. Dental decay is almost always preventable and the earlier you start with your child’s first dental visit, the better.

It is recommended that until the age of 18, children regularly visit the dentist every 6 months. Our Geans Dental Family Plan makes it even easier to do this, because check-ups for children up to 16 are free when you're a member!

With our dental care family plan, children under 16 get personalised oral care and hygiene for free.

Your child’s first visit

To make sure that we lay the right foundation for oral care, it is important for us to establish trust with your child. We do this by familiarising them with our practice, the team and get them to have some fun on the dentist’s chair.

Putting your child at ease

Hopefully, your child will feel relaxed at the practice and be willing to open their mouth, so our dentists can do an examination. However, if this does not happen, don’t worry. Some children take longer to adapt to new people and surroundings. Their visits can always be used to give you home care advice and tips on tooth-friendly food and drink from our team.
