When your teeth and gums are healthy,
your body is healthy too.

Since several studies have established a link between oral and overall health, we believe that the issues you face could arise from either. By following a structured approach to evaluating, identifying and addressing these issues, we are able to provide evidence-based interventions for you, and tell you about ways to ensure that your oral and overall health is maintained in the long run.

The link between Gum Disease and general health must not be underestimated, as there is clear evidence that Gum Diseases, Periodontal Disease in particular, are directly linked to Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke. The disease may also be linked to other systemic diseases and conditions, such as Osteoporosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Alzheimer’s disease. It can also affect pregnancy outcomes.

At Geans Dental, our highly experienced team of Dental Hygienists performs evidence-based treatments and provides advice and coaching on how you can best take care of your mouth.

Bad Breath

Bad breath (Halitosis or Oral Malodour) is related to volatile sulphur compounds that are released by bacteria in the mouth. Periodontal Disease and Halitosis are related because of the high number of bacteria present. By improving your gum health, you can reduce the number of bacteria on the teeth and soft tissues. Bad breath issues usually diminish when this happens.

SCALING

When plaque and tartar are left, they could elevate the risk of disease and eventually lead to tooth loss. Scaling is vital to the health of the gums and teeth. We recommend scaling and polishing treatments at regular intervals of 3, 4 or 6 months to remove the deposits around teeth and gums, keeping them healthy and reducing the risk of disease. Our hygienists will also provide you with advice on reducing your risk of disease.

IMPLANT MAINTENANCE

The longevity of your dental implants is largely impacted by how well you look after them. Like natural teeth, it’s possible to develop Gum Disease around implants (this is called Peri-implant Disease). If untreated, it can reduce the life of the implant.

We check the health of the tissues surrounding your implants for any signs of disease, using the Association of Dental Implants (ADI) and International Team for Implantology (ITI) guidelines for assessment. Our hygienists will use state-of-the-art techniques like Air Polishing to clinically maintain your implant. They will also remove plaque and calculus deposits from your natural teeth and create a bespoke home care regime, so you can look after your implants between appointments.

Tooth decay
(Dental Caries)

Acids and sugars in various foods react with bacteria in the mouth, resulting in softening or erosion of tooth enamel, which could lead to cavities and tooth decay. Teeth that have evidence of gum recession are at a greater risk of tooth decay, as the exposed root surface is more prone to acid attacks. Our hygienists assess your personal Caries risk and help you reduce the risk with diet and oral hygiene advice. They also apply topical Fluoride to all teeth, which helps strengthen the structure of the whole tooth, making it less disease-prone.

AIR POLISHING
Air Polishing image

Air Polishing is a superior, safe and gentle alternative to conventional tooth polishing. We have a state-of-the-art Air Polishing unit that propels a jet of warm water and a very fine powder to effectively remove stains and sticky plaque. The result is teeth that appear brighter and whiter. The fine powder used during treatment has anti-bacterial qualities that help delay the regrowth of plaque bacteria and improve the health of your gums.
