periodontal care

Periodontal Disease, or Gum Disease, is a silent but serious problem. Patients often experience no pain or symptoms; however, more than 45% of adults in the UK are affected by it. Many studies link oral health to a number of significant conditions, such as Alzheimer’s, heart health and Diabetes.

Stages of Gum Disease

Gum Disease develops when inflammation spreads to the tissues that support the teeth.

1

Healthy gums

The gums look pink and firm. There is no bleeding when you brush or clean between your teeth.

2

Gingivitis

Caused by the sticky white plaque that forms around teeth after brushing; makes gums look red and swollen. There is bleeding when you brush or clean.

3

Periodontitis

The plaque destroys the tissues and bone supporting the teeth. Periodontal pockets appear with plaque inside, that cannot be reached by a toothbrush or cleaning aids.

Geans Dental takes a different approach.

Our practice emphasises the philosophy of prevention.

Our dentists and hygienists work closely to screen all our patients, even from a young age, for signs of gum problems. All patients are provided with bespoke oral health coaching based on their genetic, social and personal risk factors for the disease, so they are aware of the habits they need to form to avoid the disease. We also use evidence-based protocols to help manage the disease when we see any signs of it. Learn more about Hygiene at Geans Dental here.

Sabrina, our Principal Dentist, has a special interest in the disease, science and treatment of Periodontitis.
